Matthew Johnston (North Okanagan Knights), Kaleb Percival (Beaver Valley Nitehawks) and Matt Fleet (Kimberley Dynamiters) have been selected as the Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26, 2023.
Johnston – Top Forward – The Salmon Arm product had three goals and six assists as he helped the Knights defeat the Osoyoos Coyotes in five games. Johnston had two goals, one an insurance marker, and an assist in a 7-4 Knights win to give them a 3-0 series lead. In their 7-6 overtime loss, Johnston had a goal and three assists and in their Game 5 win, 5-3, he collected two assists. The first assist gave the Knights a 2-0 lead and the second made it 4-2. Johnston is the KIJHL playoff points leader with five goals and 14 points in five games.
Percival – Top Defenceman – The Nelson native collected five assists in four games to help the Nitehawks defeat the Nelson Leafs. Percival assisted on a short-handed empty net goal by Austin McLean for a 6-2 lead. He picked up an important assist to tie Game 4 at 3 leading to their overtime win. In a 3-2 loss, Percival was in on both goals and he assisted on Eithan Grishin’s series clinching goal in a 6-3 final.
Fleet – Top Goalie – The Calgary product won three games to help the Dynamiters win their series over the Golden Rockets. In the three games combined, Fleet stopped 74 of 77 shots, including a 29-save shutout performance for a 0.98 goals against average and a .961 save percentage. Fleet has the third best SP (.942) in the Teck Cup championships and the fourth best GAA at 1.57.
