Dynamiters’ Fleet commits to BCIHL’s Mariners

Kimberley Dynamiters goalie Matt Fleet has committed to play for the Vancouver Island University Mariners in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League for the 2024-25 season.

Fleet has 15 wins in 26 games for the Dynamiters with a 2.50 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.

“The league over the past three years has helped me develop as a player and person, giving me lasting friendships and memories,” said Fleet. “I owe that all to my teammates, my coach Derek Stuart, my billets, and the entire Dynamiters organization.”

Fleet added that joining VIU gives him an opportunity to continue to play at the next level, while pursuing his education.

Stuart, the Dynamiters head coach-GM, said the Dynamiters are proud of Matt’s commitment.

“He came here as an unsigned 18-year-old who had to earn a spot,” said Stuart. “His work ethic and determination turned him into a championship-winning starting goalie last season and he is a huge part of our team again this season. Matt has earned this commitment and we are very happy for him.”
